After a yearlong nationwide search, Biola has a new provost and senior vice president. David Nystrom, a respected scholar with an extensive record in Christian higher education, took the high-profile position in August and was formally installed at a ceremony in November. (You can watch his and the entire on Biola鈥檚 YouTube channel.)
As the second-ranking member of Biola鈥檚 administration, it鈥檚 Nystrom鈥檚 job to lead the university鈥檚 faculty and to continue to expand and strengthen Biola鈥檚 academic reach in the years ahead.
鈥淚t involves everything from making sure that microscopic attention to detail takes place, all the way to strategic thinking 20 years out,鈥 he says. 鈥淚n some ways I鈥檓 the chief articulator of Biola鈥檚 mission to the faculty and the chief articulator of faculty concerns to the administration and the board. 鈥 I鈥檓 sort of the explainer of each side to the other.鈥
Before coming to Biola, Nystrom served for five years as vice president for academic affairs at William Jessup University and 12 years as chair of biblical and theological studies at North Park Theological Seminary. He has also taught at Fuller Theological Seminary, where he received his M.Div., and the University of California at Davis, where he received his B.A. and Ph.D.
Here鈥檚 your chance to get to know him.
